7th & 8th Grade Boys Building Grit, Confidence, and Momentum in Denton

This past weekend in Denton at Denton Ryan High School was another powerful step forward for our West Texas ONE teams. While the scoreboard tells part of the story, the real wins came through effort, growth, and the character our players displayed throughout the weekend.

Our 7th grade team truly set the tone with their toughness and heart. Playing the entire weekend with only five players, they were tested physically and mentally in every game. No substitutions. Few breaks. Just nonstop effort. And yet, their energy never wavered. Possession after possession, they continued to compete, encourage one another, and fight through fatigue. That kind of grit and determination can’t be taught it’s built through experiences like this. This group gained invaluable confidence that will carry them forward for years to come.

The 8th grade team also showed strong signs of growth. After a slow start in their opening game, they responded the right way by learning, adjusting, and competing harder. In their second game, they captured their first win of the season, a moment that reflected their commitment to improvement and teamwork. Although they finished the weekend 1–2, they had many bright moments that showed just how much potential this group has. Their communication, effort, and execution improved with each game.

What stood out most from this weekend was not just how our teams played but how they handled adversity. Whether it was playing short-handed, bouncing back from losses, or staying locked in late in games, our athletes showed maturity beyond their years.

These experiences are exactly what help shape confident, consistent, and competitive players. Every tournament builds the foundation for future success, and this one was no different.

We are excited about the direction both teams are heading. The growth is real. The mindset is strong. And the future is bright.
