How We Choose Tournaments & Events

Why This Question Matters

How we choose the tournaments and events our teams attend is an important topic, and one we believe deserves transparency and clarity. The truth is that we don’t always have complete control over every tournament on our schedule. Certain events especially live periods and circuit tournaments are part of the competitive basketball landscape. If we want our athletes to gain real opportunities for growth, evaluation, and exposure, participation in these events is often required. While we may not control every option, we are very intentional about how we approach each one.

Balancing Travel, Finances, and Opportunity

When building our schedule, we work to balance opportunity with responsibility. Our goal is to create a season that allows for manageable travel and thoughtful financial planning while still providing high-level competition and meaningful experiences. Each trip is evaluated to ensure it serves a clear purpose, whether that is development, exposure, or long-term growth.

For our middle school teams, the priority is development. At this stage, athletes benefit most from strong in-state competition that challenges them without placing unnecessary demands on travel. We focus on high-level Texas tournaments that allow players to grow their skills, basketball knowledge, and confidence while building a solid foundation for future seasons.

As athletes reach high school, the focus shifts toward exposure. College coaches and evaluators primarily attend live periods, circuit events, and select regional tournaments. Because of this, out-of-state travel is sometimes unavoidable. When travel is required, we work to stay within our region and select locations that provide the greatest exposure and competitive value while being mindful of family commitments.

Making Each Trip an Experience

We believe tournaments should be more than just games on a schedule. Travel allows players to build relationships, develop independence, and grow as teammates. We work intentionally to make every trip meaningful and worth the investment by focusing on connection, preparation, and shared experience.

We do not take scheduling lightly. Every decision is made with our athletes and families in mind, balancing what is ideal with what is required. While not every event will be perfect or convenient, each one is chosen because it provides value in development, opportunity, and experience. If we ask you to show up, it’s because we believe it moves our athletes forward.
